The cold, dry air does a number on our skin during the winter, as well as your pets’ skin!  Scratching, redness, flaking and dandruff are all signs that your pet is suffering from dry skin.  The easiest way to maintain a pet’s healthy skin is regular brushing, which removes dead hair, encouraging the growth of a new, healthier coat. Additionally, brushing stimulates circulation, which will help your dog stay warmer, and of course helps to prevent matting.

Other ways to help your pet’s skin during the winder months:  if you have a dog, regular shampooing is a must (use a natural moisturizing shampoo that contains oatmeal formulated for pets);  the use of humidifiers can help; pet food, treats and supplements containing omega-3 fatty acids can also help promote long term skin and coat health; and if your pet requires normal trimming, keep it up over the winter months, don’t let your pet’s hair grow longer in the winter months.
